Arsenic filter in Goria Nagar installed!

Arsenic filter in Goria Nagar, India

From the generous donations given at the Psychedelia for No More Durty Water event at The Blind Tiger Club in May 2013, the Calcutta Rescue team has now installed an arsenic filter in the village of Goria Nagar in the Malda district, India. The community can now enjoy clean drinking water as a result of music and art provided by Black Market Karma, Kassassin Street, Carmen Rosa, Oh Captain!, Cassettelord, Atomsphere, El Winlove, David Neal and Partial Facsimile. Thank you all!

We shall continue raising money and awareness through the means of music and art, starting with Southsea Old Guard First XI at the Little Johnny Russels in Southsea THIS SATURDAY 14th November. This event is to commemorate comrade DJ Monkey P, the initiator of No More Durty Water, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Come down and enjoy 11 wicked DJs spin records from 1 PM till late and donate money you can spare to help more people gain access to clean drinking water. After all it is a BASIC HUMAN RIGHT!

UNICEF Tap Project

11060039_10153153717650797_1275212423551933406_n

The UNICEF Tap Project is back! This year’s initiative asks Americans to unlock 14 million days of clean, safe water for children around the world by encouraging you to stop texting, calling, emailing, tweeting and posting — and challenge your friends to do the same. Millions of children around the globe do not have safe, clean water to drink, and the lack of this basic necessity isn’t just inconvenient — it’s lethal. Take the challenge on your cell phone at UNICEFTapProject.org throughout the month of March. The longer you go without touching your smartphone, the more clean water will be unlocked for children in need.

The UNICEF Tap Project is a nationwide campaign that provides clean water and adequate sanitation to children around the world. Currently, UNICEF works in more than 100 countries around the world to improve access to safe water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities and to promote safe hygiene practices.

See what UNICEF has accomplished. Projects include urgent care in the Philippines where UNICEF so far has provided water kits, water treatment products, portable toilets, and hygiene kits to hundreds of thousands of people in need.

We at NMDW HQ think this is a great way to raise money and awareness. Plus you get to get a life not using your smartphone! Thank you Claire for making us aware of this.

nmdw_bottledlife

The film Bottled Life is now on available to watch on Netflix.

Do you know how to turn ordinary water into a billion-dollar business? In Switzerland there’s a company which has developed the art to perfection – Nestlé. This company dominates the global business in bottled water.

Swiss journalist Res Gehringer has investigated this money-making phenomena. Nestlé refused to cooperate, on the pretext that it was “the wrong film at the wrong time”. So Gehringer went on a journey of exploration, researching the story in the USA, Nigeria and Pakistan. His journey into the world of bottled water reveals the schemes and strategies of the most powerful food and beverage company on our planet.

Clean water is a basic human right. NMDW

Save The Blind Tiger

blind_tiger
Help save The Blind Tiger.

We had an amazing fundraiser last May ‘Psychedelia For No More Durty Water’  at The Blind Tiger. This will be a great loss to a Brighton.

Brighton and Hove is a vibrant city with a rich, diverse history of culture and live music. However, over the past eight years we have lost a number of iconic live music venues in the city, some due to issues that could well have been sorted out with the full cooperation of all parties.
Due to noise complaints by ONE person who moved into a flat above a bar with a long history of live music, we are losing another live music venue. We are all entitled to peace and quiet, but moving into a flat above a live music venue and complaining about the noise is like moving to Spain and complaining it’s too hot.

Please sign the petition here, to repeal the noise abatement notice

Food waste contributes to wasted clean water, each year food waste sums up to a waste of water equivalent to the annual flow of the Mississippi river.

WASTE — an informative short film on the relationship between food waste and resource waste.

Cleaning Water In Brighton Under The Influence Of Psychedlia

no more durty water 4

A fundraiser for No More Durty Water featuring 4 bands and 4 visual artists to provide clean drinking water in the district of Malda, West Bengal, India, of which is severely arsenic polluted. we want to buy a water filtration unit, which filters out the arsenic and iron and supplies clean drinking water for 500 people. These units currently come to approximately £ 1.810 and will be installed by local charity Calcutta Rescue (registered charity no. 290197).

An amazing line up not to be missed! Brighton based trio Oh! Captain will treat you to an intense trip along the lines of At the Drive-In and Mars Volta (Drive-In at Mars), long time lovers of walls of sound Carmen Rosa will hypnotise you with their driving guitar work and funky bass lines, and fresh back from tour, Kassassin Street has blown life into krautrock again through a big reed of psychedelia. And then, not only will these three bands blow you off your rocker, but the mighty Black Market Karma are rolling in their huge sound from London to send you into space!

The visual aspect is going to be immense. The one and only Cassettelord will be conducting live art on the night, and there is an original cassette-piece to be won (drawn from the number on your tickets, so don’t lose it!). El Wenche Winlove is showing a supreme collection of her animation films on a big screen in the breaks between bands, drive-in cinema style, and Partial Facsimile has promised a mixed media tactile installation. If this wasn’t enough to stimulate you watchers, Atomsphere are planning a cymascopic approach to band visuals!

We have also been informed that Captain O’Dave of Carmen Rosa has some artwork for us to hang, but it will remain a secret until the night.

C’mon BRIGHTON –
4 bands 4 visual artists £4 entry (that’s 50p a pop!) – A fun night for us can ensure clean water for hundreds of people!
